Tikki! Spots on!

I recognize that I haven't updated in forever. See, the animals lesson had me very very bogged down. I spent countless hours and pages in my now-scratch sketchbook practicing and then eventually got about 3 (out of 12 or 13) pages actually done. Nothing seemed good enough, so I kept putting off filling in the homework pages for real....

Anyway! Then, I saw this adorable show called Miraculous Ladybug. Then I, of course, had to watch it with my toddler. She loves it so much. She also loves to mimic the main character and say 'Tikki! Potson!' So, I decided to draw her as Ladybug, doing the transformation. If I can, I would like to make two more pictures. No promises though.

For now, Eliana: 'Tikki! Pots on!!'

Lesson 4 - Insects/Arachnids

After over a month, here are the insects and arachnids. First, the lay-ins:

Then, the studies:

I didn't used to be so disturbed by bugs as after doing this lesson. That being said, scarab beetles are beautiful!

Lesson 3 - Plants

Thanks to the holidays, this took over a month, BUT, here are the plants.

First, the 2 (3) pages of lay-ins. Not sure if I did these correctly. I think I better figured it out by the end.

Then, the 8 plant studies. These should be pretty self-explanatory. Some turned out better than others. Some are downright embarrassing, but I didn't have the energy to do more. (yet)

Back in high school, most of my classmates never wanted to look at plants again after AP Bio. I think I've reached that stage now.

The River Don

Normally, I prefer to sketch things. Past that, I prefer to do portraits. However, my dad requested me to do this landscape for him. It is of the river Don, which is a major river in Russia upon which sits the city of Rostov.

After working on this over the course of a few months (a little bit at a time), it's finally done enough to share:

Hope you like it!

Now, it's back to lesson 3 - plants. Only a page and a half to go!

Lesson 2 - Redo - All but the arrows

Here's a take two on Lesson 2 - Organic Shapes, Dissections, and Form Intersections.

First, Organic Forms and Dissections.

Next, after 6 pages of practice, the dreaded Form Intersections:

So much more practice, planning, pre-sketching this time. I'm not sure if it made enough of a difference.

250 Box Challenge

It's been a while of no posts.

In short, my second lesson needs to be redone and in the meanwhile, I also needed to do the 250 box challenge. Fairly self-explanatory. 250 boxes drawn in 1, 2, and 3 point perspective for practice.

This took over a week and 21 pages of sketchbook paper, but here they are!

I tried to mark most of the mistakes. I missed a few I see even now but I'm not sure it's worth rephotographing and re-uploading it all.

Next, I need to redo Lesson 2. I hope to do better this time.

LESSON 2 - THE BASICS, PART 2 FROM /R/ARTFUNDEMENTALS

Here is Lesson 2 -  Organic Forms, Contour Lines, Dissections and Form Intersections.

First, Organic Forms. Three pages of arrows:

Now, the 4 pages of organic shapes:

Dissections are next. I'm not sure if I did enough of them.  It was difficult for me to find good source material for references.

Last, Form Intersections. The video helped but I think I still need more time to really get this stuff down.

I have a feeling I might need to redo some of this. My boxes still suck though they've been getting somewhat better. The 250 box challenge might be next.

Here's the lesson for those interested:  http://drawabox.com/lesson/2

Lesson 1 - The Basics, Part 1 from /r/ArtFundementals

I have completed Lesson 1: The Basic Mechanics of Drawing: Lines, Ellipses, and Boxes! It doesn't sound like a lot, but, here we are. Make sure to click through all the pages in each slideshow. The last ones tend to be a decent amount better than the first.

Lines: (2 pages of superimposing lines exercise, 1 page of ghosting lines exercise, and 2 pages of planes exercise)

Next, Ellipses: (2 pages of tables of ellipses, 2 pages of ellipses in planes, 1 page of funnels)

Next, and last: BOXES (2 pages of plotted 2 point perspective,  2 pages of rough perspective, 2 pages of organic perspective) Man oh man did this take forEVER

Now, I understand that this isn't some great amazing artwork. This is a way for me to keep track of progress and hopefully someone gets some useful exercises out of it as well.

Happy drawing everyone!

EDIT: My sloppiness has been caught and I am properly ashamed of myself. Here is another page of rough perspective. This had me tearing at my hair and banging my head on the desk. Maybe I need a few more years of practice before I can draw straight lines.
